English time and different stages.

English time is not all the same, we always have an opportunity to improve and enjoy it more. When I teach children English in the kindergarden I take into account their stages of development. It is also important to make use of all the different forms of communication: verbal, visual, touch, facial, gesture etc. For every group we practice new vocabulary by having a name tag in which they have their simbols. Depending on their group it is included more vocabulary in their name tags. In Apricot group they learn the shapes which is next to their symbols. In Yellow group they have got different sizes and quantities of their symbols, helping them to learn how to count and meaning of big and small. In Orange group we develop the vocabulary of this year’s project: the world’s continents with the animals and people originally from those places.

When working with babies it is important to repeat many times the songs of the nursery rhymes in English. They don’t have still the verbal communication, but the facial expressions and gestures with hands and body are present in every song, helping babies to create a contact with me and the language.

For every song there is a scenery on the flannel board with pictures for visual communication and interaction. When children start speaking it is already possible to bring more variety into the songs and start reading more story books. Children’s vocabulary start growing and they already start forming sentences by getting to know our 6 rules in which we practice during the circle:

1. We listen;
2. We sit in a circle;
3. We raise our hands to speak. When we speak we say: can I drink water please, toilet please, can I have a tissue please, can I blow my nose please, could you tie my aproan please?
4. We keep our hand to our self. (which means not to play around with their name tags);
5. We sing;
6. We criss cross apple sauce.

The selection of songs, vocabulary and books vary according to their year projects. The orange group already have contact with the reading and writing program called the Jolly Phonics. It is a method in which they start reading words in English by singing and sincronizing with gestures.

I finish my circle by singing the song »I love you« and teddy bear gives them a hug. This is the moment where I do eye contact and demonstrate my love for them.
With the older ones we are making our English songs book. When we finish the year they can take it home and sing the songs they already know at home.
